Self-Service Password Reset

Overview

The management of the password change or the “unlocking” of an account, due for example to the loss or incorrect entry of the password itself, implies a series of activities for the corporate IT support and management of the relationship with the end user that generates often a great effort from a quantitative and qualitative point of view.

Solution

The solution, based on Microsoft Cloud services integrated into Microsoft Office 365, allows the end user, through a “self-service” portal, to independently manage the change of their password, as well as the unlocking of the account, avoiding having to request support to the IT team, with the consequent benefit of also reducing the time associated with solving the problem.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Active Directory Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher
  • Azure Active Directory Connect (AADConnect)
  • Licenses
  • Microsoft 365 Basic and Standard license plans do not support SSPR mode with “on-premises” writeback.  On-premises writeback functionality requires Azure AD Premium P1, Premium P2, or Microsoft 365 Business Premium.

Benefits

Allowing end users to independently manage the change and reset of their own passwords, gives the following benefits:

  • Improvement of the productivity of end users themselves by reducing the time required to perform the operation;
  • Minimization of the number of support calls: the management of changing the password or the “unlocking” of an account implies a series of activities and management of the relationship with the final user which often generates a greater effort from a quantitative and qualitative point of view;
  • Security optimization: Sensitive information (such as the password) are not disclosed to third parties.
